Former governor Giovanni Toti is free again. House arrest revoked

The investigating judge: "With the resignation there is no longer any danger of the crime being repeated."

Former governor Giovanni Toti is free again. House arrest revoked.

Giovanni Toti, former president of the Liguria Region, is returned free after over 80 days of house arrest. The decision was made by the preliminary investigations judge Paola Faggioni, who accepted the request of the lawyer Stefano Savi to revoke the house arrest. Toti had been in his villa in Ameglia (La Spezia) since May 7. Toti's resignation eliminated the risk of the crime being repeated, which is why the judge deemed the revocation of the precautionary measure justified.

Toti's lawyer expressed satisfaction with the provision, underlining that the former governor will be able to resume his life as a free man and, possibly, continue his political activity. The judge justified the decision by explaining that with the closure of the investigation and the resignations, the reasons for pre-trial detention decreased significantly. Now, Toti's defense will focus on preparing for the trial, including the analysis of the wiretaps.

Giovanni Toti thanked those who showed him affection and support during his period of detention, declaring that he had a clear conscience and had never pocketed illicit money. He claimed that will defend his position against all accusations, highlighting that his work has contributed to making Liguria more prosperous in terms of work, opportunities and hopes. Toti was arrested on May 7 on charges of corruption, and he defined these three months as a trial of politics and financing, which according to him were transparent and legal, as well as the actions taken to make the region grow.

L'ex governatore Giovanni Toti torna libero. Revocati i domiciliari.
