The hospital ship "Vulcano" has arrived in La Spezia with the children of Gaza.
No unexpected events during operations landing e welcome of the 62 Guests, Between children e carers, coming from Gaza Strip on board "Volcano" of the Navy. From the port of Spezia, where the ship docked this morning, there are 17 people destined for transport to Genoa, including 4 small patients who require hospitalization at the Gaslini hospital, for a total of 8 people hosted by the facility. The other 9, who make up their respective families, will be welcomed into Caritas accommodation while waiting to proceed with the bureaucratic process. The Gaslini toll therefore rises to 13 people, as 5 had already arrived on January 29th in a similar humanitarian operation launched by the Government.
The contribution of Liguria region, which in recent days had immediately activated itself as a control room together with theGaslini hospital and to various Third Sector bodies (Community of Sant'Egidio, Caritas, Arci and the Federation of Evangelical Churches) in finding a solution for food and accommodation, but also cultural mediation and the supply of primary goods, thus guaranteeing concrete help to families. Equally crucial is the contribution of Department of Civil Protection, which will take care, in support of the Italian Red Cross, of the safe transport of 5 people from Liguria to the hospitals of Milano to receive the necessary care.
«The Liguria Region has a well-established organization thanks to Civil Protection, Third Sector and Healthcare that, in collaboration with Arci, Caritas, Federation of Evangelical Churches, Sant'Egidio, made it possible not only to take care of the small patients and their families who will remain in Liguria, but also to guarantee the safe transport of patients and relatives who will go to the other pediatric hospitals in the country – comments the Health Councilor Angelo Gratarola -. This is the second phase of a journey that began on January 29th with the arrival of the first plane at Ciampino with 5 people, two mothers and three children, then transported to Gaslini. The third and final phase will be a new flight arriving on February 9th with 25 people on board, of which it is not currently known how many will be destined for our region. What is certain - goes on Gratarola - is that Liguria confirms its willingness to welcome. Climbing on board the ship "Vulcano" and meeting the gaze of those who saw the war up close touched me particularly. We will therefore, as always, make all the best professionals available to take care of them not only to soothe physical wounds, but also to support the psychological traumas inevitable in tragedies such as war."
«We are writing a new page on hospitality in our region to demonstrate availability, and responsibility of Liguria in completing delicate missions like today's which allowed, in addition to the hospitalization of children in need of care, also the reunification of some families – adds the councilor for Social and Civil Protection James Giampedrone -. Third sector bodies, Civil Protection and the Gaslini hospital have once again demonstrated their ability to work as a system by coordinating the subjects involved. The Liguria Region reiterates its willingness to collaborate with the Government in managing emergencies, deploying its skills and resources to help those in need. Furthermore, today we are not only completing primary reception operations, but thanks to the Civil Protection we will act as a filter in the transfer of as many people to Lombardy."
