Tajani on a mission to Washington to participate in the NATO Summit.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is leaving today for a three-day mission (July 9-11) to Washington, where he will participate - together with the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and to the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto – at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Atlantic Alliance. On this occasion the Allies will celebrate the 75 years since the signing of the Atlantic Pact and the establishment of the Alliance.
«The Washington Summit will serve to renew the message of unity and cohesion of the Allies in support of Ukraine, which the Italian Presidency of the G7 has put at the center of its agenda»Said Tajani, highlighting that «it will be important to ensure that the commitment to a gradual and sustainable increase in defense spending is accompanied by due consideration of the contribution that Italy provides in terms of men and equipment to NATO missions».
«In addition to attention to Ukraine and collaboration with Indo-Pacific partners, we want NATO to devote equal energy to the Southern Flank, because it is necessary to cultivate a 360-degree vision of Euro-Atlantic security, in line with the provisions of the Strategic Concept", commented the Minister.
Tajani will also chair a meeting of G7 Foreign Ministers, Thursday 11 July at the venue, focusing on the situation in Middle East, in line with the constant attention given by the Italian Presidency to the region. There will be an exchange of views on the continuing instability in the Red Sea, which will also be at the center of the works of the Ministerial on Trade in Reggio Calabria and Villa San Giovanni scheduled for next week (July 16-17).
The deputy prime minister will also participate in one on July 10th working dinner for Foreign Ministers, which will be hosted by the US Secretary of State Antony blinken, and which will also be attended by Ministers of NATO partner countries and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
