Minister Antonio Tajani will participate in the UNESCO conference “Cultural Heritage in the 27st century” from 29 to 21 November.
The Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, will participate on Wednesday 29 November in the ministerial session of the UNESCO Conference on Cultural Heritage in the XNUMXst century. The Conference, which has been held in Naples since 27 29 to November and is organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Municipality of Naples, hosts representatives and experts of the 194 UNESCO member states.
The objective is to promote a reflection with experts and representatives of member countries on the new challenges posed to the Heritage by: excessive urbanization, unsustainable tourism, climate change, conflicts.
“Heritage must be preserved, promoted and above all defended by threats that threaten him. Take care of it, in a choral manner and shared, can help transform war zones into laboratories of peace, promoting the rebirth of the territories and theirs peoples" – commented Deputy Prime Minister Tajani. “Italy boasts an exceptional experience to share, recognized on the level global also thanks to the record in terms of number of sites registered in the World Heritage List, in addition to the elements inscribed in the List of Intangible Heritage, such as the Mediterranean Diet and Art of the Neapolitan pizza chef. We are also on the front lines of the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural goods, both through the action of the Carabinieri Command TPC both through the active and convinced commitment of the Italian archaeological missions for the recovery and restoration of the artistic heritage of countries in crisis conditions: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and more recently in Ukraine”.
On the afternoon of the 29th, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani, together with Minister Sangiuliano and in the presence of UNESCO Director General Azoulay, they will then launch the Call for Action “The Spirit of Naples”, a starting point and hopefully a reference in the future to start an increased dialogue and strengthened synergies between the UNESCO Conventions on tangible and intangible heritage, as well as to consolidate the role of Culture as a global public good.
The Conference will pay particular attention to Africa, a priority continent forUNESCO and for the Italian Government. “We want to offer support to African countries and the countries of the Global South so that their heritage is better represented in the UNESCO lists, and therefore protected. Italy makes its experiences and skills available to achieve this important goal, in order to achieve a more balanced representation of the entire Membership in the Lists", concluded Tajani.
