Rome: Farnesina approves 115 million euros for humanitarian emergency initiatives.
Deputy Minister Cirielli announces contributions of over 115 million euros for global humanitarian interventions, with a focus on Africa, Ukraine, Afghanistan and other crisis areas.
Rome: Farnesina approves 115 million euros for humanitarian emergency initiatives.
In the framework of the humanitarian interventions of development cooperation, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs delegated to International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, he resolved financial contributions with a total value of over 115 million euros intended for emergency initiatives.
Focus on interventions in Africa
Over 66 million euro will be allocated to initiatives in Africa, with particular attention to:
- Response to climate change (28 million euros, including interventions for the drought emergency in the Sahel);
- Support for displaced persons and refugees, as well as interventions on health, nutrition and protection;
- Between these, over 7 million euros will be allocated to initiatives in Sudan and to support Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries, in particular Ethiopia and Chad.
Contributions for Europe and other crisis areas
- In Europe, in partial implementation of the commitments made in Berlin for the emergency in Ukraine, 23 million euro were deliberated in favor of the Civil Society Organizations engaged in the country.
- 2 million euro will instead be allocated to the humanitarian response in Moldova.
- New interventions are also planned in:
- Afghanistan, with demining initiatives;
- Colombia, for assistance to Venezuelan refugees.
Support for Italian Civil Society Organizations
All in all, over 70 million euros will be dedicated to activities of the Italian Civil Society Organizations, for projects aimed at vulnerable populations in crisis contexts.
Commitment of the Italian Cooperation
La Italian Cooperation confirms its commitment to ensuring a concrete humanitarian response and providing assistance to the most vulnerable, including:
- Displaced persons;
- Cross-border;
- Host communities.
Thanks to these measures, Italy continues to represent a pillar of solidarity and international support, intervening in the areas of greatest crisis to support the most vulnerable populations.
