The celebrations for the 78th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic. Before the solemn flag raising atAltar of the Fatherland, then thetribute to the Unknown Soldier, where a laurel wreath was laid by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by the highest officials of the State.
The Prime Minister was present at Piazza Venezia Giorgia Meloni, the presidents of the Senate and House, Ignazio La Russa e Lorenzo Fontana, as well as the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto. They flew over the square Frecce Tricolori. Following the traditional parade at the Imperial Forums.
That's where Claudio Baglioni he sang theNational anthem accompanied by the joint defense band. Afterwards, under torrential rain, the Carabinieri band opened the traditional parade. This year the theme of the celebrations was “In defense of the Republic, at the service of the country”.
The Frecce Tricolori flew over the Imperial Forums, as per tradition, closing the celebrations. Thousands of people looked up to the sky, despite the rain, and came to Via dei Fori Imperiali to watch the parade. In the skies of Rome, in addition to the planes, helicopters and paratroopers that preceded it, the national aerobatic team, the largest in the world: ten aircraft, of which nine in formation and one solo.
“Celebrating the 78 years of the birth of the Italian Republic recalls the values of our identity and of a far-sighted and wise Constitution – writes the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message to the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone on the occasion of June 2nd -, fruit of the extraordinary rebirth that started from the Liberation struggle. THEindependence and freedom are achievements that must be defended every day, in communion of intent and with the ability to cooperate for the common good".
“The Fathers of the Homeland were aware of the risks and limits of closure in national contexts and dreamed of an Italy open to Europe, close to the peoples who everywhere in the world were fighting for their freedoms", Mattarella's message. “Our contribution – and that of the Armed Forces – to the cause of international peace and stability is more precious than ever in today's situation characterized by devastation and aggression against civilian populations in Europe and the Middle East”, added President Mattarella in the message.
«We are in an electoral campaign for the European elections and this party also reminds us of the first idea of Europe, which was an idea of Europe that imagined that its strength, the strength of its union, was also the strength and specificity of the states national. Maybe we should go back to that embryonic European idea and European dream.", said the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Imperial Forums.
