The deputy prime minister: «I discussed the priorities of the Italian presidency of the G7 with Minister Baerbock»

Red Sea and Gaza at the center of the Tajani-Baerbock meeting.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a today telephone interview with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock.

«We first addressed the issue of navigation safety in the Red Sea and the conflict in Gaza. Ensuring freedom of navigation and the safety of maritime trade is a priority for us, especially for two exporting powers like Italy and Germany - he has declared Tajani –. We are evaluating the various operational options together with our European partners".

The deputy prime minister highlighted the importance of further strengthen the relationship between Rome and Berlin both at a bilateral level and within the EU, NATO, G7 and Quint and expressed great satisfaction for the Italian-German intergovernmental summit of last November 22nd and for the signing of the Action Plan, which the two countries are committed to applying.

«I discussed the priorities of the Italian presidency of the G7 with Minister Baerbock. We have a common vision on many dossiers and I am sure that our spirit of collaboration will contribute to further raising the level of coordination and cohesion between the G7 Partners", Tajani said.

During the meeting the ministers explored the latest developments in the Middle East, agreeing on the need to avoid regionalization of the conflict, to lay the foundations for a concrete path towards peace and to provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza.
