Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: "Memorandum of understanding with Albania to manage migrants"

According to the President of the Council of Ministers GIorgia Meloni, the collaboration with Albania will be a possibility to set up centers for migrants.
The President of the Council of Ministers left some statements to the press in collaboration with the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, presenting the content of the agreement defined for collaboration regarding the immigration emergency. It will be fundamental “Collaboration between EU states and non-EU states” stated the Prime Minister, adding that the protocol “designs the legal and political framework. It is a European-wide agreement. It demonstrates that collaboration is possible on the flow management front. Albania will give the possibility of using some areas of Albanian territory with Italy which will be able to set up centres.
During the statement Giorgia Meloni stated that the protocol aims to “Countering human trafficking, preventing human trafficking and welcoming those who have the right to protection: these are the three objectives of the agreement signed today by Italy and Albania".
The protocol will help "for the management of illegal migrants: they will be able to initially accommodate up to three thousand people who will remain here for the time to process asylum applications and, possibly, for repatriation purposes", observed Giorgia Meloni.
Regarding Italy's role, he explained that “The jurisdiction within these centers will be Italian. In the port of Shengjin the disembarkation and identification procedures will be taken care of, while in another more internal area another structure based on the CPR model will be built. Albania collaborates with its police forces with the security forces and external surveillance of the structures".
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, during the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Italy and Albania for the management of illegal migrants, stated:“If Italy calls, Albania is there. Geography is now Italy's curse. If you enter Italy, you enter Europe."
