Oristano, almost 1 million euro project for the area between the Cemetery and Campo Tharros
A total redevelopment
Oristano, almost 1 million euro project for the area between the Cemetery and Campo Tharros.
The large area near the Cemetery of Oristano and Campo Tharros will be redeveloped with a 928 thousand euro project that will allow the new ring road to be connected to the Oristano West business centre.
The technical and economic feasibility project, already approved by the Sanna Council and developed within the Oristano Ovest Program and the PNRR, provides for the redevelopment of the accesses to the cemetery, the transformation of the old construction site area adjacent to the main entrance of the cemetery into an area greenery and car parks, the redevelopment of the camper area near the Tharros field.
The interventions
“The intervention involves environmental and landscape redevelopment for the purpose of enjoyment by citizens – explains Mayor Massimiliano Sanna -. The Oristano west program identifies these areas in the strategic sub-areas of the "San Martino end" of the "Viale Cimitero end" and envisages the creation of a tree-lined car park in the current camper area in front of the Tharros sports field; the redevelopment of the northern access space to the Cemetery; the construction of the southern HUB between Via Lisbona and Via Petri”.
“At the northern end of the cemetery extension, in contact with the historic garden, a tree-lined parking area has been created. The section of Viale Cimitero, in the stretch up to the intersection with Via Petri, will be widened – continues Sanna – to allow easier and safer two-way traffic, with the creation of sidewalks and the planting of new trees”.
A new space
“The main purpose of the general project is the creation of a new public space that redesigns that area – specifies the Mayor -. The objective is the valorisation and reconversion of an area in a state of degradation which is currently characterized as a large urban void. We aim to restore the lost functions to the streets and squares, as well as re-functionalize abandoned spaces and areas".
“The interventions will focus on the area in front of the entrance to the Cemetery and on the existing car park with temporary camper parking area – adds the Councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete -. We aim to create a pedestrian park to restore order and decorum, safeguarding existing trees and creating internal paths and rest areas. The avenue between the cypresses will be enhanced by transforming it into a pedestrian access that leads directly to the entrance square of the cemetery. A car park and a square to access the park surrounded by greenery are also planned. The idea is therefore to bring together the square, the garden and the path into a single, strongly interconnected space that leads to the entrance to the cemetery."
Enhance the green heritage
“An agronomist assessed the state of conservation of the trees, cataloging the species and drawing up a report that identifies a project that enhances and increases the greenery, continues the Councilor -. Direct access to the cemetery will be in via Dorando Petri via a wide path in architectural concrete".
“The current driveway accessing the cemetery is converted into a pedestrian avenue delimited and surrounded by existing cypresses – explains the Councilor – and by the insertion of new species. Near the portal, the square will be redeveloped with a new architectural concrete flooring, with designs and geometries formed by granite curbs, which delimit two stalls for parking hearses and disabled people (the only cars that will be able to access the square)" .
Redevelopment
“The area in front of the sports field will maintain the function of parking and temporary parking for campers, but new horizontal signs will be defined with stalls for parking cars, buses and campers – concludes Prevete -. The installation of new services for campers, controlled and paid, is planned, dismantling the current ones; the installation of a service column equipped with a card payment system for the supply of water and the discharge of waste water is envisaged, as well as a latest generation waste pit".
