Oristano, asbestos remediation of the “Grazia Deledda” school approved

Oristano, the asbestos remediation of the “Grazia Deledda” school has been approved.

La Sanna arrived, upon proposal of the Councilors for the Environment and Public Works Maria Good natured Zedda e Simone Prevete, approved the technical-economic feasibility project for the demolition and asbestos remediation of the secondary school of 1st degree "Grace Deledda" di via Santulussurgiu.

The project is financed with 705 thousand euros laid down by the Region within the Operational plan for the environment “Interventions for the protection of the territory and waters”.

“The school had been closed a November of the 2020 following the declaration of static unsuitability of the property - remember the Mayor Massimiliano Sanna – Suddenly we found ourselves in a real emergency that required multiple responses. First of all, it was necessary to guarantee immediate educational continuity, identify a dedicated building capable of saving the neighborhood school and, finally, decide the fate of the closed building. The 14 classes of the institute were initially hosted in other city schools and since last year they have found a permanent home in the premises of theformer Institute Frassinetti. With a great effort, with the scruple and speed necessary to satisfy the needs of the students, we found and equipped a location that allowed the district of Sacred Heart, to the families who live there and to those who refer to that part of the city, to preserve its school".

“A careful analysis revealed that it was impossible to carry out the reclamation works without the removal of the structural elements that contribute to the stability of the building which would be compromised by the mere removal of the asbestos cement panels – adds the Councilor for the Environment Maria Bonaria Zedda – With this project we therefore intervene for the removal, treatment, packaging and transport to landfill of materials containing asbestos, but for the overall demolition and global reclamation intervention to be one million and 340 thousand euros we asked for additional financing of 634 thousand euros to the Region".

“The project involves the demolition, the removal of the water/sanitary equipment, the electrical system and its components, the heating system and the radiators – specifies the Councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete – It therefore includes the works of removal of the structures present inside the building and the remediation works from asbestos and any dangerous materials that make up the structure of the building. Sampling and subsequent laboratory analyzes will be carried out for a complete characterization of the type of asbestos present in the structure, analyzing in particular the false ceilings and the infill sheets and internal partitions. It is not possible to carry out the reclamation works without the removal of the structural elements that contribute to the stability of the work, as the static organism of the building would be compromised simply by the removal of the asbestos cement panels. This is a particularly important intervention due to the context in which the property is located: the proximity to another school, the gym and the athletics field. For this reason, a global demolition and reclamation of the entire surface is needed which can be carried out after obtaining the new 634 thousand euro loan".
