Olbia-Tempio, the city joins the Plastic Free project

The municipal administration has approved the draft memorandum of understanding that will be stipulated with the association

Olbia-Tempio, with a council resolution, the municipal administration has approved the draft memorandum of understanding that will be stipulated between the Municipality of Olbia and the Plastic Free association.
«These steps make it possible to simplify bureaucracy, allowing Plastic Free to carry out volunteering initiatives in the area more quickly – says mayor Settimo Nizzi –. The green turn is a fundamental pillar of our administration, which has always been sensitive to the decorum of the city and environmental protection. We can therefore only thank the association for the initiatives it constantly undertakes and for the concrete contribution to raising awareness of the dangers of using plastic."
Plastic Free was born in July 2019 as a digital reality. In the first 12 months it reached more than 150 million users and today, with over 700 representatives throughout Italy, it is positioned as the most important and concrete association in this topic.
«Our work to raise awareness does not end only with collection events, but we carry out educational activities in schools – states Antonella Sotgiu, Plastic Free representative for the Province -. As soon as we leave the red zone, we will carry out the project in various classes of the city's primary school. We are really happy with the collaboration with the Municipality of Olbia, it is a great step forward that the Administration is taking to safeguard and protect its territory, so beautiful, precious and exclusive from a naturalistic, environmental and archaeological point of view. We thank the mayor Settimo Nizzi, the municipal offices, the members and the volunteers who have participated in the collection events so far. I also thank my students who, every day, give me the profound motivation to carry on the initiative."
«We would have liked to organize many more meetings dedicated to the collection, but the pandemic did not allow it – says Maria Francesca Carone, Plastic Free representative for the Municipality of Olbia –. In any case, participation continued to grow: at the third event on the beach “Lido del sole” was attended by 50 volunteers and in the last one in “Cala Saccaia”, over 120. This increase highlights that there are many people who want to contribute to improving the environment in which they live. And it is essential to involve families and children in this process, since the latter are the adults of tomorrow. Only in this way can we break the vicious circle that still leads too many people to throw waste wherever they happen or into nature."
