The Farnesina has joined the awareness campaign for the elimination of violence against women.

The Farnesina also joins the United Nations awareness campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Tomorrow Saturday 25 November at 18.15, Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Antonio Tajani, will participate in a lighting ceremony of the Farnesina Palace, which will take place in the square in front of the building.

“The Farnesina will be colored orange to give a strong signal of attention and reiterate the firm condemnation of any type of violence against women, a hateful crime which constitutes one of the most serious and widespread forms of violation of human rights Every hour in the world, 5 women are killed in the domestic context, while one in three women is the victim of physical or psychological violence or abuse and exploitation" Tajani said.

“Violence against women is a plague that unfortunately also affects our country. As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, I have decided to dedicate it to the memory of Giulia Cecchettin, whose killing shocked the country, the main scholarship program of excellence study promoted by the Farnesina, 'Invest Your Talent in Italy',
aimed at the best foreign talents from 17 focus countries and interested in studying engineering disciplines in Italy, economic or architectural.” Tajani pointed.

Upon indication of the Vice Prime Minister, the Farnesina and its foreign network join the campaign “Orange the World”, which kicks off 16 days of initiatives alongside civil society. The campaign, entitled “UNITED! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”, focuses on promoting investments and financial resources dedicated to combating gender violence, setting an even more ambitious objective: to proclaim on the 25th of each month a “Orange Day”, as a tool to strengthen and ensure continuous public attention on the topic.

The vulnerable condition of women and girls is aggravated in armed conflicts, as in any situation of
emergency, in which they are the most exposed. Faced with these alarming data, Italy once again expresses its strongest condemnation
against all forms of discrimination and violence against women.

The elimination of violence against women and support for female emancipation are among the pillars of the action of
Italian foreign policy and development cooperation. This is demonstrated by the numerous international campaigns, such as those for the eradication of female genital mutilation and early and forced marriages, which have always seen Italy at the forefront, and our commitment within the UN Commission on the Condition of Women. Also within the Agenda UN “Women, Peace and Security”, Italy is at the forefront of the international community both in promoting initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in post-conflict reconstruction, and through Fourth National Action Plan 2020-2024.

Italy participates in UNIDO programs aimed at supporting female entrepreneurship opportunities in the MENA region and we are proud supporters of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network, as well as the “Gender Equality Trust Fund – Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa” of the African Development Bank. The recent Guidelines of the Italian Cooperation on gender equality and the strengthening of women, girls and girls aim to further intensify our commitment through specific initiatives ranging from women's, mother-child, sexual and reproductive health, to support for programs in favor of the education of girls and women and of projects
development of female entrepreneurship.

The planning and implementation of effective policies at the international level are also of fundamental importance for flood
realization of the 5th sustainable development goal of the 2030 Agenda, of the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024 and of the EU Strategy on Gender Equality 2020-2025.
