Pichetto: «The Mediterranean is an immense environmental resource and a hub for the energy future».
Today is the International Mediterranean Sea Day: an opportunity to reflect on the value of "Mare Nostrum" and on what needs to be done to defend it from the triple environmental crisis caused by climate change, loss of biodiversity e pollution.
«The Mediterranean – states the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilbert Pichetto - it is an immense environmental resource and economic growth: all of Italy's choices go in the direction of defending its ecosystem prerogatives and enhancing its role as a bridge between countries, histories and cultures".
«In line with the objectives of the '30by30′ agreement reached in Montreal, reaffirmed in the G7 – adds the Minister – Italy wants to invest in the protection of the Mediterranean, already being able to count on a strong network of protected areas and submerged parks, as well as the precious Pelagos Cetacean Sanctuary".
«From an energy point of view - he adds Pitetto - Italy sees in the Mare Nostrum a fundamental hub for connecting the development needs of the African continent with the European path of affirmation of renewables and the development of new technologies, such as hydrogen".
«The best way to affirm the centrality of the Mediterranean Sea - he concludes Pitetto - it is therefore to carry forward, in the spirit of the Mattei Plan, a new sustainable development, which is built with great global choices, but also with individual virtuous behaviours".
