Mattarella to the Carabinieri: «The historical moment calls for loyalty to the Republic».
They opened up to Rome, in the Tor di Quinto barracks, the celebrations of the 210 years since the foundation of the Carabinieri.
The ceremony is attended by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, parliamentary and government authorities – such as the Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto – members of the judiciary, military authorities – such as the Chief of Staff Giuseppe Cavo Dragone – and the general commander of the Army, Teo Luzi.
This is the message sent by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to the commander general Luzi.
“On the day in which the Carabinieri celebrates the 210th anniversary of its foundation, the War Flag will receive the twelfth Gold Medal for Civil Valour, as evidence of the long journey undertaken since the birth of the unification of Italy and, from that moment, protagonist in the passages that characterized the history of the country. I would like, first of all, to address a grateful thought to the memory of all the Carabinieri who, at home or outside the national borders, lost their lives in the performance of duty and a deferential salute to the Flag".
“The historical moment that Italy and Europe are experiencing calls for more than ever the values of loyalty to the Republic and self-denial of which the Army has been able to interpret. The challenge to peace, the protection of the freedoms of our civil coexistence, see the Carabinieri operating in the dual projection on the one hand in international crises, on the other in the protection offered on the national territory by the network of Stations - continues Mattarella - the fight against organized crime , essential for guaranteeing legality, contributes significantly to the cohesion of Italian society. These are all fields that require demanding commitment from the women and men of the Army."
“In expressing to all the Carabinieri in service and on leave the feelings of gratitude of the national community, I express on this festive day, to you and your families, my most fervent wishes. Long live the Carabinieri, long live the Armed Forces, long live the Republic!”, concludes the Head of State.
