Mantua, “Together” selected for the testing of the European Childhood Guarantee.
Together – Center for Families of Mantova is among the Centers selected for the testing of an Italian Pilot Model part of the preparatory phase of the European Childhood Guarantee.
The pilot for the development of a family support model for vulnerable families, with a focus on families of children with disabilities, is part of the actions envisaged by Italy as part of the experimentation of the European Child Guarantee System "Child Guarantee".
Promoted by the European Union since 2015, with the aim of preventing and combating poverty and social exclusion among minors with a specific focus on minors in conditions of particular vulnerability. Recently Recommendation 2021/1004 establishing the European Child Guarantee was unanimously adopted by the Council of the European Union.
The preparatory phase in Italy
This is in Italy preparatory phase is coordinated by a working group composed of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Department for Family Policies, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and UNICEF, and it is UNICEF itself which, among the various actions of the preparatory phase, had the task of developing and testing the pilot operational model, also for the purposes of its replicability.
Based on the information that emerged through an initial mapping of the Centers with experience in the family support service and the expressions of interest received from the Centers available to participate in the experimental project, a model of peer support between families was developed through the peer support methodology. The model includes a toolkit of useful tools for training Family Center staff and subsequently of the families themselves, for the purposes of starting field trials.
The next phases
The subsequent phases will include the start of the experimentation in six Family Centers, including that of Mantua, through: a staff training course on the topic of family support; the launch and implementation of the family coaching model through peer support at the Family Centerto; the activation of peer support and coaching initiatives for vulnerable families and with a focus on the inclusion of families of children with disabilities.
The Pilot will be monitored in its various phases and will conclude with the systematization of the peer support model, for the purposes of its validation and its potential replicability in other Family Centers and scalability at a national level.
