Lebanon, Palestine and Israel reunite for the first time at the Middle East Humanitarian Conference

Minister Tajani reaffirmed Italy's support for the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and the urgency of reaching a ceasefire along the Blue Line.

The Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, opened the works of the 22nd October G7 Development Ministers Meeting in Pescara, having a Humanitarian Conference on the Middle East.

“The objective of the Italian Presidency of the G7 is to strengthen coordination for a joint action that can facilitate access to humanitarian aid in Lebanon and Gaza,” he declared. Tajani, also highlighting the role of the initiative “Food for Gaza“, launched by the Minister himself last spring.

“Today we brought together for the first time representatives of Lebanon, Palestine and Israel and had them meet with the G7 countries and the main international organizations involved in humanitarian assistance,” Tajani said. “Italy is at the forefront to ensure the provision of aid to the civilian population in the Middle East. To this end, I announced today further financial contributions from our Cooperation and the next shipment of food and health aid to Gaza with Italian trucks that will depart from the port of Genoa, by ship,” the Minister added.

“Only through dialogue will it be possible to achieve our goals: the end of hostilities, the release of hostages and the stabilization of the region.”

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister Tajani had a bilateral meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Bou Habib, to which has Italian support reaffirmed to the application of the UN resolution 1701 and the urgency of achieving a ceasefire along the Blue Line. “Italy is among the main contributors to the UNIFIL mission, which continues to play a fundamental role in stabilizing the area,” the Minister indicated, adding that “our Government will continue to assist the Lebanese people in the face of the humanitarian emergency they are experiencing, while promoting peace in the region.”
