Grosseto, agreement reached for the E78 “Due mari” up to Fano
The two Municipalities signed the memorandum of understanding for the construction of the road
Grosseto, the memorandum of understanding was signed today in the presence of the mayor of Grosseto Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna and the mayor of Fano, Massimo Seri, which marks the collaboration between the two Municipalities with the aim of acting, together with all the representatives of the territories involved, for the timely conclusion of the works to complete the E78 “Due mari” road.
Among the key points of the document is the common desire to raise awareness among the competent bodies so that the highway is built in its entirety, possibly with four lanes for greater safety for motorists.
The steps following the signing of this protocol will be the direct involvement of the extraordinary commissioner appointed for the Grosseto-Fano and of all the representatives of the territories crossed by the E78, from the Presidents of the Regions to the Mayors, regardless of political affiliation, to act jointly in comparisons with national institutions - also considering the exceptional moment that sees a government governed by a transversal parliamentary majority and with huge resources available for investments in infrastructure.
The E78 is of strategic importance for the whole of central Italy, as it represents one of the main transversal connections between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic. At an international level it is included in the trans-European transport network "Ten-T" which aims to connect the Iberian peninsula of Europe with the Balkan side. In Tuscany it connects Grosseto with Siena, Siena and Arezzo, connecting four important Italian ports: Livorno, La Spezia, Ancona and Ravenna. Planned since the 60s, it is still unfinished, with only half of the route operational.
The rest is divided into several lots and subjected to a design review upon completion, as well as requiring maintenance work on the sections already built.
“The creation of an efficient road network throughout the Italian territory is of fundamental importance not only for the safety of motorists, but also for the economic growth of the country – say the mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna and the president of the Grosseto municipal council, Fausto Turbans -. For the E78 we are at a good point: both the Government and the Pnrr have recognized the strategic importance of completing a crucial work like the Grosseto-Fano. Now, together with the mayor of Fano, we join forces to make our voice heard by asking for concrete and quick answers."
“I express profound satisfaction for the signing of this protocol between the administrations of Grosseto and Fano – concludes the mayor of Fano, Massimo Seri -. This document represents a concrete and decisive impulse for the E 78 to finally be completed. This artery has a fundamental value for Central Italy and represents an extraordinary lever of social, economic and tourist development for the territories it passes through. At this moment it is very important that the local authorities are able to promote a common commitment in supporting the realization of the work towards the Government and the competent bodies, therefore I hope that other mayors will join this document which wants to finally be brought to completion this project left aside until now".
