G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting begins in Fiuggi and Mediterranean Dialogues in Rome

They started today 25th November two important international events in Italy: the Mediterranean Dialogues in Rome , G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Fiuggi-Anagni.

The work of the Tenth edition of the MED Conference Mediterranean Dialogues (Med Dialogues) were opened on November 25th at 9:00 am, in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, by the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. Ecosystem's staff is 27th November, the Minister will lead a panel dedicated to Western Balkans and will attend the closing ceremony together with the Prime Minister Meloni.

Promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), "the Mediterranean Dialogues have now become a point of reference at an international level for discussing and comparing the strategic problems of an enlarged Mediterranean" commented Tajani.

This year's edition has been prepared in such a way as to be able to interact with the G7 meeting. Among the participants, the Foreign Ministers of Croatia, Jordan, Egypt, India, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine. For the first time they are invited to take part in the MED even the countries of Western Balkans, with the Foreign Ministers of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro. Participants also included high-level representatives of regional and international organizations, including the Secretary General of the Arab League.

The G7 work began on the afternoon of Monday 25 November. The Minister Tajani welcomed to Anagni, in the historical “Palazzo della Ragione“, the Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries. The first session of the work is dedicated to the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea. Ways to support efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, initiatives to support the population and the promotion of a credible political horizon for the stability of the region. On the Italian initiative, the issue of decisions of the International Criminal Court and possible effects on the current crisis in Lebanon and Gaza.

The discussions will continue at Fiuggi, at Congress Palace, with a dialogue session extended to the Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Qatar, in addition to Secretary General of the Arab League. “As the Italian Presidency of the G7, we are committed to peace in the Middle East. We have asked for the presence of partners in the region to promote dialogue with the members of the G7. Only together can we find concrete solutions that can bring peace and stability to the region,” he clarified. Tajani.

At the end of the first day of work, therefore, on the occasion of the international day for the elimination of violence against women, the Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries will participate in the inauguration ceremony of a red bench, which will also see the installation of a commemorative plaque. The initiative symbolizes the attention that Italy, as G7 Presidency, dedicates to the issue of preventing and combating violence against women and girls, including in numerous situations of international conflict.

The second day of work of the G7 Ministerial, Tuesday 26 November, will open with a discussion on Ukraine in the presence of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy SybihaThe session will discuss ways to support the country in continuing to confront Russian aggression, initiatives for future reconstruction and prospects for achieving a just peace.

The works will then continue with a focus on the Indo-Pacific, a strategic area for security and global trade. The Foreign Ministers of important Asian countries will be present, such as South Korea, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. In particular, the discussions will focus on how to ensure the defense of the international order and how to deepen cooperation and connectivity to foster regional and global prosperity.

The work will then focus on regional issues, with particular attention to the partnership with Africa and crisis situations such as Haiti and Venezuela. “The agenda confirms the attention that we, as G7 Presidency, are giving to trying to resolve the numerous international crises. With the invited partners, we are working to protect the common multilateral system, to guarantee global peace and prosperity by keeping the dialogue open with all the actors involved” concluded the Minister Tajani.
