France, investigation opened for illicit financing of Marine Le Pen's party.

La Paris prosecutor's office it opened recently un'inchiesta on the suspicions of illegal funding of Marine Le Pen's election campaign in presidential elections of 2022. This was reported by sources BFM TV.

The opening of the investigation was decided after a report last April by the National Commission for Election Campaign Accounts and Political Financing. The investigation opened on July 2. 

Among the hypotheses of crime, embezzlement in the exercise of public functions, fraud and forgery, according to the prosecutor's office. The Authority, which must control the candidates' electoral campaign expenses, which have a ceiling and part of which is reimbursed by the state, had reported irregularities to the prosecutor's office. A is at work now investigating judge.

In December 2022, the same body had adjusted the expenditure for the painting works of 12 rented buses with the symbol of the candidate and the party, for an amount of 316.182 euros. The expense had been considered as "irregular".

Marine Le Pen had appealed to the Constitutional Council, then he gave up the initiative.

The former candidate, defeated by Emmanuel Macron in the run-off, invested around 11,5 million euros in the electoral campaign, the third in which she was defeated in the race for the Elysée. Already in the 2017 one, her expenses had resulted in some irregular items.

Last June, the Supreme Court has definitively validated the conviction of the Rassemblement National (RN) for inflated invoices for campaign kits used by far-right candidates in the 2012 legislative elections and reimbursed by the state.

Marine Le Pen is also awaiting trial, with 24 other people and the RN, in the trial which will see her accused from 30 September for misappropriation of European funds, in the case of the remuneration of assistants of MEPs between 2004 and 2016.
