The first statements of dissent emerge regarding a proposal that is not yet entirely clear to the party group leaders. 

The hypothesis is to lower the threshold to 3%. From Brothers of Italy does not preclude the option. Matteo Salvini sI expresses the opposite: “It is right that Italians choose their representatives without any help”.

The proposal provides for the lowering of the barrier threshold for European from 4 to 3%. Meetings are scheduled to discuss the topic. Initial sources suggest that it will be difficult to reach an agreement on the matter. The hypothesis arose in the Senate, the Minister for Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, would have been involved.

The position of Matteo Salvini's party is different, which expressed itself by stating that "the League is against lowering the threshold in view of the European elections: the modification of the electoral law is not a priority, but above all it is right that the Italians choose their representatives without any help. Whoever has the votes gets the seat. Furthermore, in theory it would be more reasonable to raise the threshold: it would allow us to limit the political fragmentation which makes the country weaker".

He also expresses his opposition Italy alive, publishing a post on Twitter: “We are not interested in palace games for the next European elections. For us, the barrier must remain the one set by law. It is bad custom to change the rules of the game close to elections".

Raffaele Nevi, deputy vice-president of the FI deputies says he does not know the origin of the proposal to lower the threshold for the European elections. “For us, the 4% threshold must not be touched, we are totally against it, especially a decrease”.
