The Riviera is growing at a higher percentage +26,5% in arrivals and +25% in overnight stays in 2023; The majority of tourists are concentrated in the Cities of Art, 43,6% of regional presences; double figures also for the hilly towns, +14,4% arrivals and +11,7% attendance; the spas improved with +13,2% in arrivals and +7,6% in overnight stays; the Apennines are down due to the mild winter, -9,6% arrivals and -10,3% attendance. The Bologna data for January-March 2024 confirm the good health of tourism in Emilia-Romagna.

Attendance is growing of Italian and foreign tourists in the first quarter of the year, +9,9% compared to 2023 (+11,9% on 2019), and arrivals +9,3% again compared to last year (+5,4% on 2019).

Foreign tourists continue to increase, +15,5%, with an increase of 13,3% compared to 2023 (+15,9% compared to 2019).

As a percentage, the Cities of art and business, driven by Tourist Destinations, weigh on the regional tourist movement for 43,6% of attendance and 47,6% of total arrivals, followed by the Riviera (31,8% of attendance and 27,9% of arrivals).

These are the main data from the Report on tourist movement in hotel and non-hotel accommodation facilities in Emilia-Romagna collected by the Regional Statistics Office as part of the Istat surveys.

City of art and business
The Cities of Art and Business are growing in attendance by +4,8% over 2023 (+13,7% over 2019) and in arrivals by +3% over 2023 (+4,5% over 2019).

The Romagna coast
The greatest growth in percentage is that of the Riviera, with overall presences (Italians and foreigners) standing at +25,1% on 2023 (+24,4% on 2019), while arrivals recorded a +26,5% on 2023 (+ 23,7% on 2019).

Spa locations
Thermal resorts are improving with attendances of +7,6% compared to 2023 (-3% compared to 2019). Arrivals increased by +13,2% compared to 2023 (-7,8% compared to 2019).

Hilly locations and the Apennines
The positive trend between January and March in the hilly towns continues, with overnight stays rising to +11,7% compared to 2023 (+16% compared to 2019), while for arrivals the increase is +14,4% compared to 2023 ( +12,4% on 2019).

However, data relating to the Apennines are decreasing, also due to the lack of snowfall due to the mild winter climate, which recorded -10,3% of presences compared to 2023 (-17,6% compared to 2019) and -9,6% of arrivals compared to 2023 (-18,2% compared to 2019).
