Egypt: Lollobrigida inaugurates the first farmers market
Saturday 26 October, in Alexandria, Egypt, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, inaugurated the First Farmers Market in the Nation.
Il Minister Lollobrigida he stressed that the project “Mediterranean and African Markets Initiative” (MAMI-Farmers Markets), born on the initiative of the Italian Government thanks to the funding of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, represents an opportunity for Egyptian farmers involved, “an important step towards ensuring that agricultural producers receive the right earnings, the right income and grow in terms of wealth”.
The Minister highlighted how the opening of farmers markets could contribute to the food sovereignty of the Egyptian Republic, provide the right support to family farming and guarantee consumers access to quality food.
“It's important, – the minister underlined – that food sovereignty is achieved throughout the African continent. The Farmers Market, in fact, can be a great gateway to developing in Africa that food security that does not give up on quality and that is not prey to large economic interests that do not have the interests of workers and producers at heart”.
“Italy – concluded the Minister – is a model in this. It is our duty, but also in our interest, to strengthen economic relations with some extraordinarily important nations such as Egypt. We want to be protagonists in the world and with the Meloni Government we are succeeding”.
