Biella, Carabinieri on horseback to combat drug dealing in the woods: drug dealers' camps discovered.
The action to counteract the drug dealing in the wooded areas of the Biella area continues with new operational tools.
On the decision taken during the Technical Coordination Meeting at the Prefecture, last week the Mounted Carabinieri of the 4th Regiment of Rome, sent by the General Command of the Force to support territorial activities.
The morphology of the areas involved—vast zones, often impervious and inaccessible by traditional means—has made the use of mounted patrols ideal, historically suited to patrolling parks, countryside and woods.
Patrols in the Biella area
They have arrived four carabinieri with their horses, engaged in long-range patrols which involved:
-
la Baraggia,
-
the area of Parruzza of Cossato,
-
il Gifflenga ford.
The operations were conducted in synergy with personnel in uniform and civilian clothes, creating an integrated device capable of combating drug dealing and monitoring suspicious movements.
Bivouacs identified and effective deterrence
During the activities they were discovered several improvised bivouacs, used by drug dealers as operational bases within the forest. The structures will be removed by the competent municipalities.
The presence of the mounted soldiers also generated a marked deterrence: according to what was detected by the Carabinieri, in the affected areas a drastic drop in suspicious cars, presumably customers looking for drugs.

The activity against drug dealing in the woods—already intense in the last two years—will continue with the traditional methods, while the use of mounted units will be also evaluated for the next few months, given the initial positive responses in the area.
