The Piacenza Police carried out precautionary measures personal and real towards a 50enne Italian resident in the province of Genoa, accused of having cheated a widow fragile, taking away almost all of her assets.
The investigation started thanks to the Report of a city post office, whose employees noticed suspicious transactions. The checks revealed that the man, with the complicity of a woman, had deceived the victim by feigning romantic interest. Taking advantage of her emotional state and a psychiatric pathology, he had convinced her to give him large sums of money, for a total of 52.880 euros. The money, supposedly intended for medical care and personal problems, was in reality immediately squandered in the gioco d’azzardo.
The scam was discovered in January, when the Post Office Manager Notified Police on a suspicious transaction of 5 thousand eurosThe Flying Squad agents immediately realised the fraud and, in agreement with the Public Prosecutor, they blocked the economic relations of the suspect and the victim, managing to to save 22.500 €, the woman's last remaining savings.
The man, taking advantage of his victim, had managed to steal about 100 thousand euros from her, leaving her without money for heating and groceries, while continuing to make her believe that they would soon be moving in together. The investigations led to theissuing of precautionary measures, including the ban on residence in Piacenza and the ban on approaching the victim with an electronic bracelet.
Further investigations are underway to verify whether the man has other victims. The timely intervention of the post office staff was crucial, allowing the scam to be stopped before it was too late.
