Cortemaggiore: Six Attempted Scams in One Day, But No One Believes It

Fortunately, none of the elders fell for the trick. Further scam attempts, fortunately unsuccessful, were reported to the Carabinieri on the afternoon of Tuesday 4 February 2025, all in Cortemaggiore. The potential victims realized that something was wrong and called or had a relative or acquaintance call the police.

In total, there were 6 recorded attempts and in all of them the potential victims were elderly people. The calls came in between 14:50 PM and 18:XNUMX PM at the homes of elderly people who lived in Via Mattei, Via Cavallotti, Via Villetto, Via Firenze, Via Zucchi and Via Torino in Cortemaggiore. On three occasions, the Carabinieri operations center operator sent a patrol to the victim's home to calm her down and reassure her, considering the state of agitation of the elderly.

The script is always the same: the unfortunate victim receives a phone call from the scammer, in all six cases a woman, who pretends to be a policeman or a lawyer, saying that a relative of hers has been involved in a car accident and has been arrested or has suffered injuries. Immediately after having communicated the news, the scammer offers the victim a solution: immediately pay, in money or with valuables, a deposit to the person in charge, an accomplice of the first, who is about to show up at the door of the house. Fortunately, none of the elderly people have fallen for the trick, probably also thanks to the continuous and assiduous information campaigns that the Piacenza police carry out on the subject.

Cortemaggiore: sei tentate truffe in un giorno, ma nessuno ci crede

The advice that the Piacenza Carabinieri reiterate once again is to always be wary of those who, pretending to be relatives, members of the police force or employees of any company providing services, ask for money or even valuables to deal with feared needs or problems involving a loved one. No one can ask for cash payments by showing up directly at your door. In any case, at the slightest suspicion, call Nue 1-1-2.
