Penne: He stalked two women, threatening them with anonymous letters and bullets, 59-year-old arrested

The Carabinieri of the Carabinieri Station of Penne, have executed a precautionary measure of house arrest with the use of the so-called electronic bracelet, for the crimes of stalking, aggravated threat and illegal possession of ammunition for war weapons, on the account of a 59 year old man, resident in the local town, thanks to a complex investigative activity that began at the beginning of this year.

It all started when a woman, in January 2024, she went to the offices of the Station Command to report a very serious matter: she had in fact received an anonymous letter at her home, written with a normograph to prevent the handwriting from being recognizable, with serious death threats also addressed to her family members. Inside the envelope, in addition to the threatening letter, there was also a war projectile. Needless to say, the fact generated a heavy state of anxiety in the victim; the immediate development of the investigations and the active surveillance to protect the person, have allowed us to collect the first elements against the author of the unhealthy gesture.

A gesture that was repeated in October, when another woman, a friend of the first, received another letter of the same tenor: same threats, same stylized characters, same bullet. It was therefore not difficult for the investigators to trace back to the same hand of the first threats the man who, already under heavy scrutiny, had felt free to generate terror in another family. Analysis of the phone records, viewing of video surveillance systems and observation and shadowing services have, therefore, given a face to the perpetrator of the crimes who, when shown to the victims, have returned an even more worrying picture.

The two women, in fact, thanks to the meticulous work of the Carabinieri and the regulatory framework for the protection of victims of violence, they took courage deciding to tell what the suspect had done in previous years, already since 2021: countless bouquets of flowers at work, unwanted love notes, stalking at work and near home, harassing calls and messages. In short, a real obsession.

When the women recognized the suspected man through photographic identification, a search was immediately started.: in his home the stalker had, in addition to the war bullets identical to those sent to the women, other illegally held ammunition and, above all, the normograph used to write the letters. The arrest was therefore triggered in flagrante delicto. and under the direction of the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Pescara, Dr. Gennaro Varone, who fully agreed with the investigative findings that emerged, the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Pescara issued the precautionary measure of house arrest which, in light of the ascertained dangerousness, was applied with the instrument of the so-called electronic bracelet.

The Arma's primary commitment is to guarantee the safety of women and prevent situations that could degenerate, paying particular attention to the so-called "indicator crimes", that is, crimes such as stalking, mistreatment of family members and cohabitants and sexual violence, which are often precursors of tragic and fatal outcomes for the victims.
