Two Arrested for Armed Robberies in Perugia City Center
The episodes date back to last May.
Two arrests for armed robberies in the center of Perugia.
The Carabinieri of the Perugia – Fortebraccio Station and the Operational Section of the Perugia Company, have executed an order for the application of precautionary custody in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Perugia, against two suspects, of Tunisian origins, aged 28 and 42, homeless, with numerous criminal records.
The same are held responsible, jointly with each other and for various reasons, for multiple aggravated robbery, threats and aggravated personal injury, detention for the purpose of dealing narcotic substances, illegal carrying of bladed weapons, failure to comply with the obligations inherent to the Special Surveillance of the PS and to the ban on re-entering the territory of the Italian State.
The investigations allowed the military to trace the perpetrators of the events committed last May near the central Piazza Grimana of the capital, when they were said to have been the perpetrators, in collaboration with each other, of two armed robberies against non-EU citizens, as well as at least four episodes of drug sales, and a fifth, which was not completed, due to the intervention of the Carabinieri of the Fortebraccio station.
The investigations conducted also made it possible to clarify not only the particular brutality of the modus operandi of the two in carrying out the robberies (which in one case caused injuries to the victim that could be healed in 30 days), but also the subsequent episodes of beatings and threats with weapons in the towards the party offended by the crime who - having recognized them on the street - would have requested the return of the goods stolen from them.
The first episode took place in the evening of May 19th on the basketball court in Piazza Fortebraccio, when the victim – a young foreigner of Moroccan nationality – was approached by the two who initially asked him if he wanted to sell them the Bluetooth speaker he had in his hand, and, when the man refused, they first snatched the cell phone and then the backpack from his hands.
Upon the victim's reaction, who tried to resist, one of the two allegedly grabbed an ax that he hid under his jacket and threatened him with death if he didn't hand over his backpack and phone.
In the following days, the victim, having recognized the two robbers in the same square, asked him for the return of what was stolen from him and - for this reason - the perpetrators would have hit him with a slap and threatened him with a knife if he had again reiterated the request for get your assets back.
The second episode occurred on the evening of May 22nd, again in the same basketball court, where the two apparently approached a 39 year old compatriot and they would have first hit him in the face with a fist and then threatened him with a knife pointed at his throat to steal his laptop.
The latter, having managed to free himself from the attackers, attempted to escape, but was reached shortly after by the robbers, was thrown to the ground and then hit with kicks, punches and a bottle.
The investigations made it possible not only to trace the identity of the arrested people, who were recognized by the victims, but also to find both the stolen goods and a mobile phone that the criminals used to arrange the sale of narcotics in Piazza Grimana. .
The GIP of Perugia, following the evaluation of the request of this Office, found the existence of a serious circumstantial and precautionary framework in consideration of both the violent methods of the robberies committed and the personality of the suspects, against whom the previous convictions and the measures in force have had no deterrent effect.
In particular, the Judge, given the repeated, specific, sub-five-year recidivism for both, and having found the risk of repetition of the crimes and the evident unsuitability of less afflictive precautionary measures, issued against the suspects the provision which was executed by the military of the Arma, who associated the recipients to the Perugia-Capanne prison.
