It is a 53 year old local Italian, who, while driving a Peugeot 317 on the state road – SS 206 – for reasons still being investigated, hit the cyclist with the front right part of the vehicle, causing his death instantly. After the impact, the driver fled without providing assistance, disappearing without a trace. Thanks to the immediate Analysis of CCTV camera images of the area and subsequent investigations, the Carabinieri they managed to track down the person responsible near a garage, where he had left the crashed vehicle for repairs.

Both vehicles involved in the accident were impounded. The victim's body has been made available to the Judicial Authority for a possible autopsy. The driver of the car, result negative to alcohol and toxicology tests, he was placed under house arrest pending the validation hearing, as ordered by the magistrate on duty of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Spoleto (PG) who coordinates the investigations.
