Perugia: Strengthening of the territorial control activity thanks to the inclusion of the Operational Intervention Team

As part of the assessments of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, carried out in relation to the spread and rooting of illegal phenomena in the urban area of ​​Fontivegge, with the aim of strengthen territorial control and increase levels of real and perceived security, the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Perugia, employs in that area and, when necessary, in other areas of the city, a Operational Intervention Team (SIO). This is a specialized structure, established at the headquarters of the Regiments/Battalions of the Mobile Organization of the Force, which constitutes an immediate response in a preventive and repressive manner, integrated into the territorial devices already in place, to promptly and effectively deal with the various situations that require operational readiness and versatility of use.

Questo supporto, sent by the General Command of the Carabinieri for the specific need, allows for the daily and more widespread deployment of 3 additional dedicated patrols, supported by the territorial crews during interventions, checkpoints and control points along the main roads of interest or even in limited areas that require greater robustness of the devices in the field. As for the results ensured by the SIO staff in the first five days of presence in the capital, the results of the activities are reported conducted in support of the patrols of the local Company, during the extraordinary services arranged in the Fontivegge area, where:

• Has been released in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Perugia, because a 24-year-old man was found responsible for the illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence, of Tunisian origins, who, following the check and personal search in via Martiri dei Lager, was caught in possession of a switchblade, of the prohibited kind, subjected to seizure;
• Has been reported to the aforementioned Judicial Authority, since a 20-year-old found responsible for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing, of Colombian origins, who, checked in the aforementioned street, was found in possession of almost a gram of cocaine and several dozen euros, deemed to constitute the proceeds of criminal activity.

At the same time they were 65 people were checked, in 37 cars, 3 commercial establishments and two people were reported to the local Prefecture as drug users. The initiative of the Perugia Carabinieri for the procurement and use of this additional resource is part of theperspective of an increasingly marked inter-institutional will to seek out and deploy the best professionals on the ground in order to be able to comply with the presuppositions set out above, ensuring, at the same time, an effective action, even in terms of deterrence, to prevent the safety of citizens from being compromised.

Similar institute activities will continue in the coming days, through targeted patrols and checks on people and vehicles in the various areas of the city where it is deemed appropriate to concentrate a greater presence to guard the territory.
