57-year-old arrested in Perugia with a gun without a gun permit

A 57 year old Italian, resident in Rome and with a police record he has been arrested by the Carabinieri of the Perugia Station with the support of their colleagues from the Radiomobile Section. The military intervened in Piazza Matteotti, at the Civil Court of Perugia, where the man had been stopped by security personnel as he was about to enter the Judicial Offices because the metal detector had detected the presence of a weapon inside his backpack. Subjected to a personal search, the arrested person was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with a 7-round magazine inserted and was then accompanied to the barracks in via Ruggia for the subsequent checks.

Subsequent checks have made it possible to ascertain that the weapon was not stolen and, although dated, was in perfect working order and capable of firing. The 57-year-old, who had never been issued a gun license, was therefore declared under arrest and transferred to prison pending the summary trial for validation. The Carabinieri are currently investigating the origin of the gun, as it does not appear to have ever been reported.
