Oristano: Bomb found at university, streets reopened after bomb disposal team intervention
After the intervention of the bomb disposal experts of the Macomer Engineering Corps, the streets of the historic center of Oristano that had been closed due to the discovery of a war device inside the former Carmine Monastery, home of the Oristano university courses, have been reopened.
In a box of books inside the university building, the fuse of a 1944 bomb, used during the Second World War, and a 6.35 Beretta pistol were found. To ensure the safety of citizens and to allow for the defusing and securing operations, it was ordered the immediate intervention of the police with the prohibition of traffic within a radius of 150 meters from the place of discovery.
On site, the agents of the State Police and the Local Police intervened and coordinated the joint intervention. Then they were joined by the men of the Macomer Engineers, an ambulance of the Red Cross and the State Police Dog Unit of Abbasanta who searched the premises of the former monastery and excluded the presence of other explosives.
After the discovery of the device, the Mayor Massimiliano Sanna issued an ordinance to regulate traffic in the surrounding streets, prohibiting transit and parking in some central areas of Oristano. In particular, the stretch of Via Carmine, from the intersection with Via Ciutadella de Menorca to the intersection with Vicolo Ammirato, and the stretch of Via Crispi, from the intersection with Via Martignano to Via Carmine, were closed to traffic.
With the completion of the safety operations, the local police ordered the reopening of the closed roads and traffic returned to normal.
