A long and detailed investigation carried out in the urban centres of Oristano and Cabras by the Carabinieri of the Oristano Company, has led to the arrest of six people in flagrante delicto for possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing, reporting to the Administrative Authority of three young people for personal use and the overall seizure of quantities of cocaine exceeding 100 grams and 800 grams of marijuana. The investigation, which lasted for approximately two years and began in 2020 under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Oristano and carried out by personnel from the Operations Section of the local Company, allowed us to report 23 individuals at large, many of whom were already known to the police, originally from the municipalities of Oristano, Cabras and San Basilio (CA), as well as some people of Romanian origin.
The activity originates from a check carried out in the town of Cabras which revealed a significant retail drug dealing activity, carried out by a well-known local repeat offender, his brother and his sons. The subsequent investigation activity, conducted both in a traditional manner through shadowing and observation services, some of which were carried out at night with soldiers trained in camouflage and infiltration in impervious areas and with the use of night vision systems, and with technical investigations and telephone and environmental interceptions, has brought to light a more intense drug dealing operation headed by a young man with no criminal record and above suspicion from Oristano who, while maintaining a low profile and with the help of two very young people from the same town, sold quantities of cocaine that often exceeded several hundred grams per week, a quantity considered very high for the Oristano reality.
The complex drug dealing network was brought to light thanks to several arrests in flagrante delicto "on the open scene", in confirmation of the wiretaps in progress and with the discovery and seizure of quantities of drugs that the suspects often hid in rural locations that could not be traced back to them and that only the investigative activity allowed to be traced back to them.
The results were also achieved thanks to the support of Special Departments of the Carabinieri, such as the Dog Unit of the Helicopter Squadron "Cacciatori di Sardegna" of Abbasanta with the use of specialized dogs for the search for narcotics, including the dog Kyra, already known for other excellent results, the RIS of Cagliari for the qualitative chemical tests on the narcotic found as well as with the indispensable and valuable support of the Carabinieri Stations which, on some occasions, were called to verify with the road checks of the purchasing subjects, what was learned from the technical activities.
All 23 suspects were found guilty of possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing in concert with each other.
