Oristano, the periodic treatment campaign for palm trees of the Phoenix genus to combat the red weevil has begun.
This morning the periodic treatment campaign for palm trees of the Phoenix genus planned by the Environment Department of the Municipality of Oristano to combat the red weevil began in Torre Grande.
The intervention is carried out by the in-house company Oristanoservizi, through a specialized company, on 336 specimens distributed in the city and in the hamlets. “This is an endotherapy intervention aimed at fighting the Red Palm Weevil whose survival has been put at risk by the dangerous insect – specifies the Councilor for the Environment Maria Bonaria Zedda -. With the repeated disinfestation campaigns planned by the Municipality we want to maintain a high level of control of the health of the palm tree heritage of the City of Oristano"
The intervention follows those launched in past years and is carried out with the same parasite control methodology, consisting in the administration of an innovative phytosanitary product containing the active ingredient "emamectin benzoate", a naturally derived substance. It is an agrochemical that is applied by means of a single injection throughout the year into the stem of the palm tree with a device specially developed for endotherapy applications, which introduces the product inside the vascular system of the plant following the normal ascending lymphatic flow and without any dispersion during and after application.
