Oristano: the 616 thousand euro project for the redevelopment of Piazza Mariano has been approved.

La Sanna arrived, upon proposal of the Councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete, approved the technical and economic feasibility project for the redevelopment of Piazza Mariano.

The project from 616 thousand euros it is financed by the PNRR with 500 thousand euros, 24 thousand euros from the Region and 92 thousand euros deriving from the sale of municipally owned assets.

“It is a project that we care about to restore Piazza Mariano to the importance, both historical and social, that it deserves in the urban context, as an ideal access point to the city centre. Over the years, roads and parking have distorted its main function as a square, a meeting and leisure place. We want to recover the nature of the place, the connotation of this space as a square while respecting the functional conveniences that have consolidated over the years, favoring social functions and enhancing the War Memorial so dear to the memory of the community", explains Mayor Massimiliano Sanna.

“The project aims to redefine the spaces by creating a large pedestrian area, moving the vehicular traffic in such a way as to make it more rational. The layout of the parking spaces will also change without this leading to a reduction in the number. The parking area to the north-east of the monument will be reformulated, increasing the parking spaces from 6 to 12, eliminating the pedestrian area where the newsstand is currently located. The bus stop will move a few meters. The stretch of road south of the monument will be closed to traffic and will become pedestrian, as required by the directives of the Urban Mobility Plan. It is a solution that will allow us to satisfy the need to create a real pedestrian square", specifies the Councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete and then adds:
“The road intersection to the west of the square will also be reformulated and the traffic will be regulated by the repositioning of the traffic lights. Four car parks will be added and a safe pedestrian crossing will be created at the level of the pavements. The square will be divided into two areas: the northern one, which includes the war memorial, will be paved with white porphyry cubes and with three long concrete benches. The second portion of the square will consist of a green lawn that can function as an environmental island to mitigate urban temperatures and can be enjoyed by the public as an urban lounge. Two rows of trees are planned, one on the north side and one on the green lawn to the south."

The project is completed with the design of the new lighting: the street lamps will be repositioned among the trees in the north row, each new tree will have its own light point. Each summit of the monument will have its own lighting. Long LED strips will run underneath the concrete benches. Finally, a new irrigation system will also be built for the greenery system, in order to feed the new trees and the urban lawn.

Oristano: approvato il progetto da 616 mila euro per la riqualificazione di Piazza Mariano.
