In the afternoon of Monday, December 1st, Carabinieri Station Command of Gonnosnò (OR), In collaboration with the Municipality of Baressa (OR), organized an important informational meeting dedicated to combating the growing criminal phenomenon of fraud.
The meeting, hosted in the council chamber of the Municipality, recorded a large presence of citizens, interested in learning more about how to recognize and prevent the most common scams, especially those that affect more vulnerable people, especially the elderly.
Most common scams and practical advice on how to protect yourself
During the meeting, the Ordinary Marshal Karen Rinaldo, Commander of the Gonnosnò Carabinieri Station, clearly and expertly illustrated the main types of fraud currently widespread.

The meeting's goal was to raise awareness among participants, provide concrete tools to recognize warning signs, and prevent criminals from exploiting vulnerabilities and emotional fragility.

A useful and participatory comparison
The citizens present have shown great interest, asking questions, seeking clarification and sharing personal experiences.
The initiative not only raised awareness about the techniques used by scammers, but also created a moment of sociality and mutual support, strengthening the sense of community, especially among older people.
The Carabinieri's commitment to fighting fraud
On the operational front, the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Oristano continues to achieve significant results in the repression of these crimes. Thanks to its investigative experience, from summer to fall 2024, numerous perpetrators of extortion and fraud against the elderly were identified and arrested.
A recent case solved in Osilo (SS) This represents the third episode successfully closed in a short time, after the arrests that took place at the Port of Cagliari in relation to the events of Baratili San Pietro (OR) e Uras (OR), and the foiled scam attempt Hills (SU) last October 24th.
The gravity of these crimes lies not only in the economic damage, but also in the subtle ways in which criminals operate, often pretending to be Carabinieri or state representatives and exploiting the victims' fears regarding alleged judicial consequences.
