The opening ceremony hosted by Sveva Alviti and Sigourney Weaver's Lifetime Achievement Award are on the program.

The international films in competition:

Venice 81, directed by Alberto Barbera, opens with the visionary madness of Tim Burton and his “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”.

There will be sixteen of them competing against the five Italian films competing for the Golden Lion: “Battlefield” by Gianni Amelio, 'Vermiglio” by Maura Delpero, “Iddu” by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, “Queer” by Luca Guadagnino and “Diva Futura” by Giulia Steigerwalt.

The ceremony:

The evening will be hosted by actress Sveva Alviti, and during the ceremony the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to actress Sigourney Weaver.

The full international juries will be in the room, starting with the competition juries, chaired by Isabelle Huppert and with James Gray, Andrew Haigh Agnieszka Holland Kleber Mendonça Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako and Giuseppe Tornatore.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the opening film:

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” by Tim Burton is the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters of the director's visionary cinema, the little spirit played by Michael Keaton and with him Winona Ryder in the role of Delia Deetz.

The cast also includes Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter, Astrid, and Willem Dafoe.

Plot:

After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the city in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.

With trouble brewing in both kingdoms, it's only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to wreak havoc once again. THE
