The Palace: Roman Polanski's new film arrives in Italy in September.
The Palace is Roman Polanski's new feature film produced by Rai Cinema and Luca Barbareschi's Eliseo Entertainment. Filming which began last autumn saw Polanski working with Jerzy Skolimowski, the screenwriter of the Polish director's debut film, Knife in the Water, nominated for an Oscar in 1964 in the Best Foreign Film category. There is further news regarding the filmmaker's new work, in fact, the official Instagram page of the production company 01 Distribution (which produces the feature film The Palace), published the beautiful poster of the film about an hour ago. The most attentive cinephiles will undoubtedly have noticed the clear resemblance to one of the unforgettable frames from the film Triangle of Sadness. Who knows if Polanski specifically wanted to pay homage to the Swedish director, Ostlund.
The Palace, the plot:
According to information currently available, The Palace will be a drama set in a luxury hotel in the Swiss Alps.
The narrative will focus on the lives of various characters who will intertwine with each other during New Year's Eve 1999.
The palace is inspired by the Gstaad Palace, a luxury hotel located in the canton of Bern: over the years it has hosted many illustrious people such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, so much so that in 2000 Michael Jackson offered to buy it. Filming of the film takes place in the same hotel, and began in February 2022 and concluded in June.
The cast of the film:
Mickey Rourke, John Cleese, Fanny Ardant, Alexander Petrov, Fortunato Cerlino, Oliver Masucci and Luca Barbareschi. The direction is by Roman Polanski, while the screenplay is by Jerzy Skolimowski.
The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on September 28, 2023.
