Monza: Local Police and State Police intensify services for checking drunk and drug-impaired driving

Saturday 15th February the State Police, with the specialty of Police Police, carried out a service aimed at prevent and suppress drunk driving and driving after taking drugs.

The activity was also attended by Local Police of MonzaThe checks were carried out on vehicles coming from both directions of travel on via Battisti and viale Brianza.

They were employed 25 police officers, including also a doctor and a nurse from the State Police, with mobile office.

They were 79 vehicles and 87 people were checked, all subjected to a first level test carried out directly by police officers using a special precursor designed to detect the state of drunkenness while driving. Depending on the outcome, if positive, the stopped drivers were subjected to breathalyzer test.

The health personnel of the State Police carried out screening aimed at detecting drug use, by taking saliva from the oral cavity, and all the tests gave negative results about driving under the influence of drugs.

Of the people checked, 5 have been reported to the Judicial Authority for driving while intoxicated, having been detected with a blood alcohol level higher than 1,51 g/l. One of these was travelling on a scooter which was seized, being his property, as confiscation could be applied following a final conviction.

The people who tested positive for the tests carried out were Italian men between the ages of 18 and 32. Only one woman tested positive for alcohol consumption, over the age of 50, with a blood alcohol level of 0,7 g/l, who was administratively sanctioned.

Five drivers with a blood alcohol level higher than 5 g/l were also fined license withdrawn, for the application of the consequent accessory sanction of the suspension of the same for periods from 6 months to 1 year in case of criminal relevance and from 3 to 6 months in case of administrative relevance of the level of alcohol detected.

Furthermore, one driver's car was seized because it was his property and was subsequently confiscated following a final conviction. Other drivers who are not owners may be subject to double the fine during the trial, ranging from €1.500 to €6.000.

During the checks, they were also 5 fines issued for expired MOTs and insurance.

In some cases, drivers, given the presence of the police carrying out checks, tried to evade the check by changing direction or trying to reverse, but the control device in place allowed the vehicles to be prevented and safely blocked for inspection.
