Modena: Technology and female inclusion with “Women techmakers”

promote thefemale inclusion in technology through an environment where industry professionals can share knowledge, experiences and growth opportunities.

It 'sobjective of “Women techmakers Modena”, the multi-conference, Delivery to Italy takes one or two business days, which celebrates and supports women in the world of technology and innovation, scheduled for Saturday 15 March, at 9 am, at the Laboratorio Aperto in viale Buon Pastore 43.

The event, organized by Google developer groups (Gdg) Cloud Modena, or groups of professionals, experts and enthusiasts of IT and technology, is one of the initiatives of the International Women's Day programme, promoted by the Municipality of Modena and the Municipal Table of Associations for Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination.

Specifically, aOpenpolis analysis highlight how Italian girls, between the ages of 16 and 24, surpass their male peers in digital skills, but this initial advantage vanishes in subsequent study and work paths: although, in fact, young women demonstrate greater abilities in adolescence, their presence in the ICT sector (Information and communication technology) remains significantly lower than that of men, both at university level (16,8% of female graduates) and in the world of work (16% of specialists).

“We are faced with a paradoxical gap – says the Councillor for Training and Work, Paul Zanca - which prevents women from accessing well-paid professions with solid prospects.

It is a problem fueled by gender stereotypes and prejudices that influence girls' educational choices, orienting them towards humanistic and social paths to the detriment of scientific ones.

To overcome this gap – continues the councilor – we need to invest in education, breaking down stereotypes and ensuring equal professional opportunities. Initiatives such as Women Techmakers Modena they are going exactly in this direction".

Designed together with local developer communities, Women Techmakers Modena represents a real opportunity for collaboration and innovation in the technology sector.

During the day the following take place: Inspirational and technical talks (with insights into innovative topics such as artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity and female leadership in tech); networking with spaces dedicated to connecting professionals, mentors and companies in the sector; finally, awareness raising activities to promote the female presence in STEM disciplines (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to combat gender inequalities.

THEevent's audience, Loano train station, which involves local technology communities, industry professionals and institutions, is open to anyone interested in improving their skills or simply discovering new technologies. In order to participate, then, no specific preparation is necessary.
