Modena: the clinic for patients suffering from obesity opens at the Villa Pineta rehabilitation hospital in Gaiato, directed by Dr. Antonio Zullino.
The Villa Pineta Santo Stefano Hospital Rehabilitation of Gaiato, in the province of Modena, inaugurates on new clinic dedicated to bariatric surgery, directed by Dr. Antonio Zullino, renowned bariatric surgeon, former member of the Galeazzi Sant'Ambrogio Hospital, San Donato Group of Milano. Villa Pineta – structure of the Kos Group, a leading Italian healthcare group that operates in socio-health care and residential chronic care, in rehabilitation, in psychiatry and in acute medicine - thus expanding its services for the health of all citizens. Bariatric surgery represents a set of procedures and interventions aimed at controlling excess weight, which allows patients to obtain a weight loss of up to 70% of the accumulated excess and to prevent and treat diseases associated with obesity.
Bariatric surgery is indicated for people suffering from second degree obesity, commonly defined as moderate obesity, or third degree, also known as severe obesity. Before surgery, each patient must undergo one multidisciplinary and morpho-functional study of the stomach, which involves various professionals to evaluate the best options and ensure the success of the intervention. The Dr. Antonio Zullino underlines: “Bariatric surgery is not to be understood as a procedure as an end in itself, but must be integrated into a context of the patient's study path: a path diet therapy. In this process, nutritional rehabilitation represents an excellent tool, fundamental in a pre-operative phase with the aim of optimizing the patient from the point of view of weight, pre-existing pathologies (diabetes, respiratory insufficiency, eating habits) and from a psycho-nutritional, to develop awareness and best prepare the patient for surgery. Rehabilitation is also fundamental in the post-operative phase, i.e. in that first phase in which complications related to the operation may arise, for which hospitalization and monitoring represent a guarantee of greater success."
The bariatric surgery clinic is the result of a recent collaboration with the Galeazzi Sant'Ambrogio Hospital of Milano, where Dr. Zullino carries out his activity as an obesity surgeon, and the Villa Pineta Santo Stefano Rehabilitation Hospital, a rehabilitation facility that has specialist figures. In fact, thanks to this partnership, i patients can receive complete assistance both in the pre-operative phase, through an in-depth study, both in the post-operative phase, during which they will be followed during the recovery process and weaning. The clinic has been specifically set up to provide a full range of specialist services. In addition to Dr. Zullino, the multidisciplinary team includes a dietician, a dedicated psychologist, a pulmonologist focused on resolving respiratory diseases typical of the obese and a physiotherapist who includes movement as an essential element of the treatment path. The opening of this clinic represents a new step towards the health of citizens for the Villa Pineta Santo Stefano Rehabilitation Hospital, which thus offers patients advanced therapeutic options to address obesity and improve their quality of life.
