Modena: Four arrests for a gang specializing in tractor theft. Twenty-eight vehicles and €2,5 million in stolen goods recovered.

The organization operated between Emilia, Piedmont, and Albania. The tractors were stolen, hidden in isolated areas, and then exported by truck to the Balkans.

Modena, a gang specializing in tractor thefts: four arrests. Twenty-eight vehicles and €2,5 million in stolen goods were recovered.

The Carabinieri of Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Modena they arrested four Albanian citizens of 58, 46, 44 and 21 years old, considered part of a criminal association dedicated to the theft of agricultural tractors, receiving stolen goods andself-laundering of stolen vehicles.

The measure comes in execution of a arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation started in September 2025, after a surge in thefts in the Modena countryside: including the robbery at a company San Prospero, where they had disappeared on the night of July 24th four tractors, and that of the August 5th in Zocca, with two other stolen vehicles.

In short, investigators reconstructed a much broader picture, discovering that the gang also operated in other provinces.

The band method

The suspects were carrying out targeted inspections to choose the objectives and used stolen cars to penetrate agricultural companies.

Once the vehicles were stolen, the tractors were hidden in the vegetation in difficult-to-access countryside areas, so as to verify that they were not equipped with GPS systems.

Subsequently, the vehicles were entrusted to the oldest member of the group, who he was loading onto an articulated lorry and transported them to Albania by an overland route through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.

Through telephone and environmental interceptions, analysis of the printouts, vision of the video surveillance footage and targeted services observation and shadowing, the Carabinieri acquired serious evidence very quickly.

According to what was ascertained, the gang allegedly stole: 28 agricultural tractors (22 recovered and returned), and 17 cars and vans (14 returned to owners)

The recovered stolen goods have an estimated value of 2,5 million euro.

During the searches the following were seized:

  • jammer to disturb the signals

  • un bug detector

  • ignition keys of various tractor models

  • burglary tools

On December 8, following the validation hearing, the GIP confirmed the arrest and applied to the four suspects precautionary measure of custody in prison, accepting the request of the Prosecutor's Office.
