Taormina: Attacks a Doctor with a Razor Blade, 48-Year-Old Senegalese Arrested

In recent days, in Taormina, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Unit arrested a foreigner, on charges of resisting a public official with the aggravating circumstance of having acted against healthcare personnel.

The intervention of the military of the Arma was requested by the medical staff of the Emergency Room who had reported to 112 the presence of a non-EU citizen, armed with a box cutter, who was threatening the medical staff. In fact, shortly before, the 48-year-old Senegalese, at the moment in which the doctor was about to administer him a drug, took a razor blade from his pocket, attacking him and attempting to stab him several times in the throat.

The Carabinieri located and identified the subject, who was taken to the barracks, where, once the victim's testimony was collected, and after having analyzed the video surveillance images of the Hospital, which captured the salient phases of the attack, he was arrested in deferred flagrante delicto. At the end of the hearing, the judge, after having validated the arrest, ordered the application of a security measure for the 48-year-old.

The arrest was carried out in accordance with the regulations that protect the safety of healthcare personnel and the proper performance of public service. In fact, such acts put at risk not only the physical safety of the operators, but also the continuity and efficiency of the healthcare service.
