Earthquake hits Aeolian Islands, felt in Palermo
An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 shook Sicily this afternoon, with its epicenter located in the Aeolian Islands, precisely near Alicudi, in 17 kilometers deep. The shock, recorded at 16:19 pm by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), was clearly felt also in other Sicilian provinces, up to Palermo, causing concern among the population.
Fear among citizens, but no damage reported
The earthquake caused moments of fear, with many citizens who poured into the streets, fearing the worst. However, initial checks have not revealed any serious damage to people or buildings. Experts and local authorities continue to monitor the situation to rule out any structural criticalities.
The only noteworthy report came from Cefalù, in the province of Palermo, where the firefighters were called for a safety check at a school.

Authorities and experts from the INGV continue to monitor seismic activity to assess the possible evolution of the phenomenon.
Government and Region monitor the situation
After the earthquake, the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, assured that the government is carefully following the evolution of the situation. “We are ready to intervene if necessary“, declared Palazzo Chigi, confirming that the Prime Minister is in contact with the Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci, the head of the Civil Protection Fabio Ciciliano and local authorities.
even the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, expressed closeness to the affected communities and guaranteed maximum attention and promptness in the eventual management of the emergency. "I am in constant contact with the regional Civil Protection and local authorities for rapid monitoring of the situation”, declared Schifani.
High alert, but no alarm
Despite the strong shock and fear among citizens, no damage has been reported structural or casualties. The situation remains under control, with authorities ready to intervene if necessary. Attention remains high, especially for possible new tremors in the coming hours.
