Sant'Agata di Militello: They grow Indian hemp plants on their home land. Two spouses arrested.

On the morning of August 27, the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Sant'Agata di Militello Company, with the assistance of the Sicilian Carabinieri Hunters Helicopter Squadron and the Carabinieri Dog Unit of Nicolosi (CT), they arrested a married couple, considered responsible for the crime of cultivating narcotic substances.

During the services arranged by the Company of Sant'Agata di Militello, aimed at preventing and suppressing drug-related crimes, with particular regard to the cultivation of such substances in the rural areas of the competent jurisdiction, the military were aroused by suspicions strong smell of marijuana coming from the land belonging to the couple's home.

The subsequent search of the land made it possible to ascertain that in fact the aforementioned had created, near a chicken coop and inside a small greenhouse, a plantation of approximately 10 marijuana plants, of considerable size in width and height, all lush and ready to be harvested. The arrested, moreover, had built a wooden shed in which other plants were kept to dry.

Following the search of the couple's home, two cans containing marijuana seeds were also found, a precision scale and additional pieces of hashish weighing a total of 10 grams.

The substances found were seized in order to be sent to the RIS of Messina to carry out quantitative and qualitative checks.

The arrested, by order of the PM on duty of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Patti, were restricted to house arrest pending validation of the arrest. The GIP of the Court of Patti, after validating the arrests, reserved the decision on any precautionary measure to be applied.
