Messina, the WAY project has been successfully concluded: sport as a tool for inclusion.
With the closing of the masterclasses at Villa Dante, the WAY – Welfare Activity for Young project has concluded, a project that put sport at the center to promote healthy educational values, social inclusion and territorial cohesion.
The final masterclasses, which saw the participation of national and international champions such as Cristian Brocchi, Gianluca Zambrotta, Massimiliano Rosolino, Giada Rossi and the technician Alessandro Arcigli, they represented a moment of great educational and comparison value. Many young people and families have had the opportunity to listen to direct testimonies from athletes and to experience practical experiences in the field, experiencing the truest meaning of respect, fair play and teamwork.
The WAY project, strongly supported by the municipal administration and implemented by Messina Social City, involved: over 500 young people, who actively participated in the sports activities promoted by the 21 participating amateur sports associations; 6 municipalities, with urban regeneration interventions that have seen the installation of 6 fitness areas and 8 concrete ping-pong tables; and numerous public initiatives, bringing sport to the territories to encourage active participation of the communities.
The mayor of Messina, Federico Basile, said: "WAY represents a concrete example of how administration and territory can collaborate to build paths of inclusion and growth. This project has brought sport and its values to every corner of the city, offering young people opportunities that make a difference, both on a personal and community level.”
The president of Messina Social City, Valeria Asquini, he added: "WAY has shown that sport is a powerful tool to promote values, build relationships and improve social well-being. WAY has been an extraordinary journey that has combined sport and educational values, achieving important goals for our young people and for the territories. Sport has confirmed itself as a powerful tool for inclusion, capable of breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for growth. This project leaves a concrete and lasting mark on our community. I thank all the entities involved for making this extraordinary journey possible.. "
Satisfaction was also expressed from the Councilor for Social Policies Alessandra Calafiore: "WAY has shown how sport is a common good to be protected, shared and told. This project has given the opportunity to grasp the enormous potential that each person brings with them, which represents an essential objective to contribute to the creation of a society that truly knows how to welcome, include and respect the uniqueness of everyone.. "
The delegate of the Italian Paralympic Committee Francesco Giorgio concluded: "Sport is much more than a competition: it is a school of life. Through the WAY project, we have guaranteed many young people the opportunity to compete with champions who represent the highest values of sport. These meetings have planted seeds of inspiration, dedication and passion, which we hope will continue to grow over time."
With the conclusion of its activities, WAY leaves a legacy of regenerated spaces, transmitted values and a new impetus towards the future, so that young people can continue to experience sport as an opportunity for growth and inclusion.
