Messina protagonist at the Urban Regeneration Festival “The city on stage”.
The Metropolitan City of Messina and the Municipality of Messina played a central role in the Urban Regeneration Festival “La città in scena”, presenting the “Boy's City” project and the redevelopment strategy for slum areas.
The general director of the municipality of Messina Salvo Puccio illustrated the results and the progress of the urban regeneration project of the “Città del Ragazzo”, receiving appreciation from the participants. The initiative, strongly supported by former mayor Cateno De Luca and financed with 55 million euros of PNRR funds, is now being implemented under the guidance of mayor Federico Basile. The project, part of the Integrated Urban Plans of metropolitan cities, involves the demolition and reconstruction of the former “Città del Ragazzo” complex in Gravitelli, transforming it into a social and health district dedicated to the “Dopo di Noi” program. This place, once a symbol of the work of Father Nino Trovato, will be regenerated to offer innovative and inclusive services to the community.
The same success was achieved by the presentation of the redevelopment strategy of the former shantytown areas, launched under the direction of Cateno De Luca through ARISME. Thanks to funding obtained from PON, FSC and PNRR resources, the project has allowed the demolition of several degraded areas and the planning of urban regeneration interventions that are transforming the face of the city.
Messina confirms itself like this a model of excellence in the field of urban regeneration, with ambitious projects that combine sustainability, inclusion and territorial redevelopment.
