Messina, the Giammoro area is reborn: the first plant has been laid.

It took place this morning at Giammoro the ceremony for the laying of the first plant for the reforestation project areas adjacent to the road axis pier funded by Ministry of Ecological Transition, organized byStrait Port System Authority in collaboration with the Municipality of Pace del Mela. Participated in President of the AdSP of the Strait Mega Mario, the senator Barbara Florida and mayor of the Municipality of Pace del MelaMario La Malfa, both of whom have strongly supported the redevelopment of these areas. Also present is the senator Carmela Bucalo.

A highly symbolic moment, which will give a completely new perspective to this area: it will be reclaimed and reforested with the planting of 7 thousand oleanders and 400 pines, which will have a notable capacity to absorb CO² and, at the same time, remove pollutants (PM10). The furnishing of two areas is also planned to ensure public usability with benches, picnic tables, children's games and waste bins. The achievement of this objective is also the result of the commitment made in recent years by Barbara Florida, Outgoing undersecretary and recently reconfirmed senator with the 5 Star Movement.

"Together with the then Environment Minister Costa, I wanted this type of intervention for the forestation of this area, which had been neglected and polluted for too long. Subsequently – declares the Senator Florida - I urged the President of the AdSP of the Mega Strait to consider the idea of participating in the tender, in agreement with the Metropolitan City of Messina, to access the funds provided for by the Public Notice Experimental Program for Urban Reforestation of 2020". "I thank President Mario Mega for having seized and followed up on this important redevelopment opportunity. Today is an important day for our territory and for the health and well-being of citizens“, concludes the Senator Barbara Floridia from Messina.

Il President of the AdSP of the StraitMega Mario, expresses his satisfaction thus: “Today we witnessed the birth of what will constitute a small but significant "green lung" in an area, such as that of the Valle del Mela, where it is known that the air quality is, unfortunately, not the best. I am particularly proud of this reforestation intervention, since it is the emblem of what for the AdSP of the Strait means "sustainable development" create port infrastructure such as the Giammoro pier, to support the economic fabric of the area and, at the same time, through the reforestation intervention in question, make an overall improvement of the territory possible, not only limiting the environmental impacts of the logistical infrastructure and allowing a reforestation of the area with all the beneficial effects that it entails, but also by creating new public green spaces, which constitute points of social interest for aggregation and free time at the service of the community".

Il mayor of Pace del MelaMario La Malfa, adds: “After 4 years of close dialogue with the tireless President Mega, we have placed the first plant in the Giammoro Industrial Area. This result is also the result of a proposal made by the Administration immediately after I took office and I am very happy that now a path will begin that, until some time ago, was impossible to imagine. We will witness a transversal redevelopment and these spaces will now find the right size and will finally be usable. With today's ceremony we kick off the birth of what will be a green lung that will embrace our beautiful sea".
