Today is Transgender Remembrance Day: the initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Messina begin in conjunction with the Day against violence against women on 25 November

Today, November 20th, we celebrate the Transgender Remembrance Day, community anniversary LGBTQIA + in memory of transsexual and gender-diverse people who are victims of abuse and transphobic hatred. To demonstrate the support of the municipal administration of Messina in the fight against violence and discrimination, thanks to the commitment of the Equal Opportunities councilor Liana Cannata, a video was created to report to the citizens the activity that the municipality carries out on a daily basis. CUG and CPO network of the Municipality of Messina, established on 8 March 2022, within the institutions and orders.

“The video released on the page and the institutional social channels of the Municipality is aimed – explains councilor Cannata – at making known the working context in which the members of the Network operate and the commitment made by each individual member to achieve concrete objectives in areas of equal opportunities. Precisely today, on the day dedicated to the memory of all transgender people who are victims of hatred, violence and injustice - adds the Equal Opportunities Councillor – the intention is that viewing the video can involve and mobilize public opinion to create a culture of inclusion, so that we are all aware that gender violence concerns a large number of people discriminated on the basis of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation is a vulnerability of the entire society because it is a phenomenon that affects all of us, regardless of sex and age".

In the context of the initiatives of the CUG and CPO Network, Monday 27 November at 10 am, in the presence of the mayor Federico Basile, the General Director Salvo Puccio and councilor Liana Cannata, the Listening Desk will be inaugurated, established by the municipal administration for the protection of the worker's health and their organizational well-being, located inside Palazzo Zanca, and which will also be used for the activities of the CUG.
