Spadafora: Missing 81-year-old found in valley
In the area of contrada Mastroneri, approximately 5 kilometres from the town of San Martino, a hamlet of Spadafora (ME), following the searches, Giuseppe Castelli, the 81-year-old man, has been found, which, on the evening of November 3, he had left his home on foot and had never been heard from again.
The elderly man's wife had reported him missing to the Carabinieri of the Spadafora Station, who immediately began the search, directing it in particular to the countryside surrounding the hamlet of San Martino, where the man lives. The Prefecture, informed by the military of the Arma, then activated the provincial plan for the search for missing persons, in which the Carabinieri and the Fire Brigade participated, together with the other Police Forces and the civil protection bodies.
In particular, in addition to the Carabinieri of the Spadafora Station and the Milazzo Company, the military of the Helicopter Squadron "Sicilia" intervened on site, a unit of the Carabinieri specialized in combing in inaccessible rural areas, search teams of the Fire Brigade equipped with technical equipment, including canine units, with the air support of a Carabinieri helicopter, which searched the areas concerned.
Thanks to the research conducted by all the forces in the field, deployed in various areas adjacent to the town centre, as possible places where the man could have gone, the elderly man was tracked down by a team of Carabinieri while he was lying stretched out in a valley about 300 metres from the nearest dirt road. The man, although tired and confused due to the several hours spent in the countryside without eating, was found to be in good condition and was transported to the Fogliani hospital in Milazzo for the necessary medical checks.
