Ferrandina, 53-year-old arrested for stalking and threatening his ex-wife

The Carabinieri of the Ferrandina Station have arrested – in application of the so-called Red Code, the set of rules aimed at combating domestic and gender-based violence – an 53 year old foreign citizen, with no criminal record, found guilty of stalking his 39-year-old ex-wife, also a foreigner. The arrest was made by the military in the middle of the morning in the streets of the city center. The Carabinieri intervened promptly after receiving a request for help from the woman, identifying and immobilizing the man, who was trying to chase her on foot., in the grip of a fit of jealousy, the ex-wife's new partner, threatening to kill him.

The episode had been preceded by two reports, which the woman had filed in the previous days at the Ferrandina station, reporting to the police two episodes of threats, the first of which had been committed in person, with her ex-husband who had approached her outside her house threatening her to end the new romantic relationship, and the second via telematics, by sending numerous messages with highly threatening content.

It was precisely the woman's first complaints that caused the Judicial Authority to activate the special protection and safeguard procedures provided for by the Red Code legislation, which led to theimmediate intervention in the case of the attempted assault which ended with the arrest of the man. The arrested, at the end of the formal procedures, he was transferred to the Matera prison, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, before which will have to answer for the crimes of aggravated threats and stalking.

It is important to underline the fundamental importance of women's complaints, who told everything from the beginning, entrusted herself to the men of the Carabinieri, who immediately set in motion the machinery of protection and safeguarding, which proved decisive in putting an end to what was becoming a real nightmare and, above all, in avoiding further and much more serious consequences.
